Patch Test
The basic 24 hour patch test, done in accordance with the COLIPA standard, is an occlusive, epicutaneous test method appropriate for collecting experimental data on cutaneous tolerance of raw materials or finished products. The substances to be tested under occlusive conditions are applied to volunteersī backs for 24 hours. Irritation effects which develop are visually measured, documented and analyzed 6, 24, 48 and 72 hours after removing the plaster. 20 volunteers usually take part in this test. The data are summarized as an irritant sum score. A statistical data analysis is done to determine significant differences (p < 0.05) in case of product comparisons.

Normally, 20 plasters are adhered to a volunteerīs back in the 24 hour patch test.
