Skin research in the third millenium
The skin is the human body´s biggest and most versatile organ and provides us with lifelong protection from harmful environmental factors. Furthermore, the skin assumes important functions in perception as well as in the areas of immunology and metabolism. In order to be able to accomplish all these tasks, there needs to be a complex interaction between the skin´s various compartments.Phenion investigates skin functions and the interactions between skin compartments with the help of the latest cell and molecular biological methods. In particular, a proprietary full skin model which is similar to human skin in many aspects is used. It allows us to analyze changes in cell structures and biochemical patterns which are caused by environmental factors or contact with substances and materials. This model, as well as additional innovative cell culture techniques, form the basis for the development of new cosmetic concepts and for the characterization ofs innovative skin bioactives.
